Chicano Park -
'Raza si , Migra no!' 'Varrio si, Placa no!'
Objective-
Chicano Park is underneath San Diego Coronado Bridge in Barrio Logan. Its majority of population is made up by Mexican-American people and the park is Historical around the world. In the 1970's construction that had begun separated and split the community in two parts, and it turned out instead of a park workers were building a Highway Patrol Police Station. The news or word spread around Barrio Logan which is why college students stood up. To show and express their unconformity and possible anger they begun painting murals. Once, they even stood in the tracks to make the construction stop. A Aztlan flag was raised as a symbol of reclaiming the land. After 12 days of Mexican-American fighting to get the construction stopped and get their park the city government was open to negotiation. The day of the take over the creation of the park began that day. Today Chicano Park is the most larged outside park with Murals in the US. All murals in the park have been created by many different artists not only by one. And they were created as it when along there was no plan of the murals before starting them. One of the goals of the park is to make it 'All the way to the bay' which inquires that murals should be made to the bay. The Murals are there to show and give a message about Latino and hispanic culture.

Subjective-
I definitely feel connected, related and proud of our Chicano Park. Before this field trip i had never been to Chicano Park; so i really thank all teachers who made this experience possible for me and all my classmates. I learned many things, like about 'Las Adelitas' who went to war or 'Emiliano Zapata' who helped the poor. I think it was a smart decision fighting to get the park and i feel proud of all people that contributed to the fight for our Chicano Park. Going to the Park reminded me and taught me of how important my culture is and that i should be proud of being Mexican. Even though i am not into art I really admire, like and enjoyed the murals. I really liked the quotes and messages the art in the park gave to all spectators. Chicano park is enjoyable and reminds every Latino, Hispanic, Chicano of the importance of our culture through art.

Centro Cultural de la Raza-
Objective- The Centro Cultural de la Raza is located near Balboa Park, San Diego. The space used to be water storage or tank constructed during World War II. The thinking of developing a Centro like the one we have to day, began in 1960's by some local artists. These artists realized (had an epiphany) they needed a local place where to perserve with Mexican cultural. Political and some social opposing caused its official inauguration to be in the 1970. It is currently an organization that teaches and encourages the proudness of Chicano culture. They provide dancing classes, music, drama and arts and crafts. This Centro accounts with workrooms, studios, offices and a theater. The main mural took the artist 15 years to finish. And when he first started painting it he didnt have the whole mural planned.
Subjective- I really liked The Centro Cultural de la Raza , the history was interesting and paintings were amazing. I turned really impressed after seeing the main mural. I feel specially connected to all the meanings of the murals and paintings. Not only that but i learned a lot, from paintings to history. The outside murals was something inspiring in which paintings i always tried to find a meaning for. I am really proud of having a Centro like this, that teaches us and inspires us. I thank to the artists who thought of the idea of having the centro cultural de la raza, because it is a place i can assist to learn even more about my culture through art, dance , drama, etc.
